Lorain man struck by train, dies later of injuries

A 47-year-old Lorain man died when he was struck by a train on the railroad tracks in the 4500 block of West Erie Avenue, according to police.

About 17:17 p.m. Sept. 15, police were called to the site for a report of a man struck by a train.

The Lorain Police Traffic Bureau was called due to the seriousness of the incident. Traffic investigators determined the man, identified as James Hughes, 47, was walking on the tracks when he was struck by a westbound train.

LifeCare paramedics began emergency medical treatment and Hughes was taken to Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital, then Cleveland Metro Medical Center. He died of his injuries several days later, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation by the traffic bureau.
