CLEVELAND — Jarvis Landry had an MCL sprain during Sunday’s Browns home opener, which could cause him to miss upcoming games, coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday.

What You Need To Know

  • Jarvis Landry has a sprained MCL and could miss several games

  • He was injured in the Browns’ opening drive of Sunday’s game

  • Fellow receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has missed the first two games with a knee injury

  • Stefanski would not speculate on potential changes if Landry is unable to play Sunday against Chicago

Landry was injured in the Browns’ opening drive in their 31-21 victory over Houston. Stefanski described Landry’s status as “week to week.”

Stefanski wouldn’t officially rule Landry out for Sunday’s against Chicago.

“He is attacking his rehab,” Stefanski said. “Nobody likes to be injured… but these guys are going to fight their rear ends off to get back and battle and compete for teammates and Jarvis will be an example of that.”

Fellow Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has also been injured for the first two weeks of the season and is considered week to week. Beckham is still recovering from a knee injury, which forced him to miss much of the 2020 season.

Stefanski was unsure if Landry would be placed on the injured reserve. If placed on the injury reserve, Landry would be forced to miss three games.

Another key player, linebacker Sione Takitaki, will be out on a week to week basis with a hamstring injury, Stefanski confirmed Monday.

While not injured, Stefanski on Monday said that quarterback Baker Mayfield was “sore” but “feeling fine.” Mayfield told reporters on Sunday that his non-throwing shoulder “popped” during Sunday’s win. He was able to finish the game, and completed 19 of 21 passes.

“It kind of popped in and out, but I will be good. Nothing too serious,” Mayfield said Sunday.
