'The Handmaid's Tale' sets unfortunate record at 73rd Primetime Emmys

The Handmaid's Tale is now an award ceremony cautionary tale.

The Elisabeth Moss-fronted Hulu series came into Sunday night's 73rd Primetime Emmys ceremony with 21 nominations—the fourth-most overall behind The Crown (24), The Mandalorian (24) and WandaVision (23)—but woke up Monday morning without a single win, "setting the record for the most losing series in a single year, topping AMC’s Mad Men zero for 17 that occurred in 2012" (h/t Variety).

There's no need to feel bad for The Handmaid's Tale, though, as it has won 15 Emmys and various other awards since premiering in April 2017.

On the flip side of the spectrum, Netflix housed the most Emmy winners this year with 44—a first for the seminal streamer—and the top prize for winningest individual program was split between The Crown and The Queen's Gambit with 11 each.
