Hope Mills man killed, two others wounded in Cumberland weekend shooting

A Hope Mills man was killed, and two other people were wounded early Saturday in a shooting in southern Cumberland County, authorities said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Hope Mills man was killed, and two other people were wounded early Saturday in a shooting in southern Cumberland County, authorities said.

Cumberland County deputies responded to a reported shooting near the intersection of McDonald Road and U.S. Highway 301 South at about 1:15 a.m.

Carlos Emanuel Thurman Gillis, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene, and another man was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his leg.

A third person involved in the shooting was found near the county line by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the shooting wasn't random, but no other details of the case have been released.
