HAMILTON COUNTY, Neb. (KSNB) - Nobody was injured in an accident Saturday night on Interstate 80, but it did force authorities to shut down a portion of the interstate for two and a half hours.

Hamilton County Sheriff Jeromy McCoy told Local4 that the accident happened around 7:25 p.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of I-80 near mile marker 328.

Sheriff McCoy said a Ford pickup, carrying two adults and a child from Lexington, was pulling a trailer filled with groceries when it was struck from behind by a semi, driven by a man from Texas.

The semi jackknifed at the 328 bridge and hit a guardrail.

Sheriff McCoy said the pickup was totaled, ending up on its side and the trailer was destroyed. Food that was in the trailer covered the interstate.

The semi driver told authorities he had looked down and when he looked back up, he tried to break to avoid hitting the trailer but was unable to.

The interstate was closed as crews worked to clean up the road and remove the vehicles.

No charges or citations were filed.
