Who Is Jean Smart's Son Forrest?

At the 2021 Emmy Awards, Jean Smart accepted the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for "Hacks." With her win, Smart made history as only the second person to win an Emmy in the comedy lead, supporting, and guest categories — the only other person being Betty White, according to Insider. Smart won in the Outstanding Guest Actress category for "Frasier" in both 2000 and 2001 and she won Best Supporting Actress for "Samantha Who?" in 2008.

Upon accepting her award, Smart gave a tearful tribute to her late husband, Richard Gilliand, who died in March, Page Six reports. "I would not be here without him," she said, to a tearful standing ovation from the room. "Without him putting his career on the backburner so that I could take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities I've had."

Smart also gave a shout out to her two children: 31-year-old Connor and 13-year-old Forrest, calling them "wonderful and unselfish" and each "very courageous in their own right." Forrest actually accompanied Smart as her date to the event. Here's what happened.

Forrest was 'very proud' of his mom

Jean Smart's teenage son Forrest was very supportive of his mom, telling red carpet correspondent Karamo Brown that he was "very proud of her, she really deserves it, she worked really hard for everything," (via She Knows). "Those are the moments that make us as a parent cry right there," Brown replied.

Smart told Forrest that she felt guilty about being away working for months at a time and asked him if it was okay. "No," Forrest said, before backtracking. "I mean, it was okay ... this was worth it."

Entertainment Tonight's Lauren Zima asked Smart what she was thinking of after her triumph at the Emmys and what her late husband, Richard Gilliand, would say. "Oh gosh, well he'd be very happy for me," she responded. "I was thrilled to share it with my youngest, and he's ecstatic. So that was really special." Smart continued, "Unfortunately, I have to go to work at the crack of dawn tomorrow, so I can't party too much tonight."
