The annual Cherokee County Fair returns this week, bringing various rides and attractions back to Canton after a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fair festivities are scheduled to kick off 5 p.m. Tuesday and last through Sunday at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds. Events throughout the week will include live music every night from artists and bands, carnival rides and attractions, exhibits, contests, and food.
Lynne Rollins, fair organizer, said she and other organizers are still working out final details about the exhibits at the fair.
“Since we didn’t have the fair last year, exhibit displays may be down,” Rollins said. “We will still have exhibits, and the barn will be open throughout the week for people to see.”
There will be educational and commercial exhibits, as well as community displays of canned and fresh food, baking, flowers, sewing, crafts, photography and more. Rollins said there will be prize money and ribbons available for guests who participate in the contests for these exhibits.
The fair will also feature the annual Miss Cherokee County Fair beauty pageant, which will take place 1 p.m. Sunday for infants through teenagers.
Those hungry at the fair will be able to visit the American Legion Post 45 kitchen for favorites such as hamburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, corn bread, and pinto beans, Rollins said. There will also be cotton candy, snow cones, and popcorn.
Rollins said the fair gates will open at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free for children 5 and under and seniors 65 and older, $2 for children ages 6-12 and $5 for adults 13-64. Parking is $2 per car and will be handled by the JROTC unit from Cherokee High School. Wristbands for the rides will be available for purchase for $25. Wristbands will be sold for $20 Wednesday. No coupons will be accepted this year.
“We’re trying to make this one great since we weren’t able to have one last year,” Rollins said. “We hope people will come out and enjoy the fair.”
The fairgrounds are at 160 McClure St. in Canton. The Cherokee County Fair has been held for more than 90 years and serves to benefit the American Legion Post 45 as they carry out their mission to help veterans. only fundraiser of the year. For more information, visit bit.ly/3kme0oe.
