Toccoa toddler drowns in Lake Hartwell

A Toccoa toddler has been identified as the victim of a Sunday afternoon drowning in Lake Hartwell. 

Chris Stephens, the coroner for Stephens County, confirmed his office and the Stephens County Sheriff's Office are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

Stephens issued a press statement saying Stephens County 911 received a call at 1:34 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19 about a drowning that had occurred in the lake in the area of Ridgemore Circle. 

"Multiple agencies from Stephens County and Oconee County S.C. responded to the scene," Stephens said in the statement. "The body was recovered at 3:24 p.m."

Stephens identified the victim as Charlotte Elizabeth Scott, who was just 19-months-old.

The child's body was transported to the GBI Medical Examiner's Office in Atlanta for an autopsy.
