Dawes County Travel Board lifts improvement grant moratorium

CHADRON – After more than a year, the Dawes County Travel Board has lifted its moratorium on improvement grant applications.

“Uncertainty in the travel industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with outstanding commitments, prompted the Dawes County Travel Board to stop accepting Improvement grant applications,” explained Discover Northwest Nebraska Director Kerri Rempp. “As the 2021 regular tourism season ends, the board is comfortable lifting that moratorium and will consider Improvement grants at its next meeting on Oct. 5.”

Improvement grants are designed to improve tourist attraction infrastructure in Northwest Nebraska and are funded by lodging tax collections. The Dawes County Travel Board considers Improvement grant applications four times a year – in January, April, July and October. Applications and guidelines are available for download at www.discovernwnebraska.com under the About tab.

The proceeds of a lodging tax on motel/hotel/campground lodging in Dawes County provide the funding for both the Promotion and Improvement funds at the county, which are authorized under the Nebraska Visitors Development Act.
