The Utah Jazz are headed to Las Vegas.
For three days.
The team announced Monday morning that it will hold its annual training camp in Sin City this year, at the Wynn hotel from Sept. 28-30.
The Jazz’s annual media day will take place in Salt Lake City on Sept. 27.
This marks the first time since 2008-09 that the team will hold its training camp outside of the state. In that preseason, the Jazz held their practices in Boise.
The rationale for holding the camp in Vegas this year comes down to the Jazz’s simple desire to stage a pre-season trip together for bonding and camaraderie-building purposes.
Utah chose the Wynn because it is said to offer a setup similar to the “Orlando bubble” — where the NBA famously restarted its pandemic-interrupted 2019-20 season, and also staged its playoff tournament. The Wynn will offer the team in-house basketball courts in a conference room-type setup.
Several other NBA teams are also expected to soon announce they will likewise move their preseason camps away from their traditional practice facilities.
The Jazz will open their preseason schedule Oct. 4 in San Antonio.
