OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A man accused of grabbing an 8-year-old girl’s arm at Walmart in Grand Haven Township may have had physical contact with other young girls, sheriff’s deputies said.

Police have arrested a 43-year-old Grand Haven man after he allegedly grabbed the 8-year-old’s arm on Sunday, Sept. 19. The girl’s mother saw the man grab her arm and pulled her away.

The man, wearing a face mask, quickly walked away, sheriff’s deputies said.

The incident happened around 2:40 p.m.

Around 5:25 p.m., a patrol sergeant saw a man who matched the description of the man at Walmart on U.S. 31. The sergeant determined that he was involved and arrested him.

Police said that the suspect may have had contact with another young girl as he was leaving Walmart. Police do not know the identity of the girl or her family and asked that they contact the Sheriff’s Department.

Police said the man may have gone to other businesses in the area and had contact, or tried to have contact, with other young girls. Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a report that the man had contact with a 7-year-old girl at the nearby Meijer store.

Sheriff’s detectives are working with Ottawa County prosecutors to determine charges. The suspect’s name has not been released.

Police asked anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Department at 616-738-4000 or Silent Observer at 877-88-SILENT (877-887-4536).
