After a body believed to be Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito, 22, was found over the weekend, the FBI is executing a search warrant on her boyfriend’s family’s home in Florida.
Brian Laundrie, 23, has been identified as a person of interest in the case. He was last seen Tuesday in Florida and searches for him continue, according to The Associated Press.
The 22-year-old woman went missing while on a cross-country trek with Laundrie. He returned home to Florida with the van they were driving in on Sept. 1 without her.
He did not cooperate with authorities prior to his disappearance, officials said.
“The #FBI is executing a court-authorized search warrant today at the Laundrie residence in North Port, FL relevant to the Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Petito investigation,” the FBI tweeted. “No further details can be provided since this is an active and ongoing investigation.”
Video from the scene showed a massive law enforcement presence, NBC New York reported.
Dozens of officers have taken part in search for Laundrie at the 24,000-acre Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County, Florida after he went missing, according to Newsweek.
“Why would you [try to] get consent from the guy, and not get a search warrant?” Pat Diaz, a former Miami-Dade homicide detective of 35 years, told Fox News.
On Sunday, Petito’s father posted a tribute on social media.
“She touched the world,” Joseph Petito tweeted.
The tweet included a broken heart emoji and a photo of his daughter.
On Sunday, authorities discovered a body in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park who they believe is Petito.
