Bomb disposal experts have carried out controlled explosions on two suspicious packages found in the grounds of Lincoln Castle.

Their discovery had earlier prompted police to evacuate the castle complex which includes Lincoln Crown Court.

A 100-metre cordon which was put in place has now been lifted.

The Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was "satisfied that the packages were not explosive devices", Lincolnshire Police said.

A spokesperson for the force said an investigation would continue into how the packages came to be left in the grounds.
