TL;DR
  • HMD Global has announced plans to introduce a new tablet on October 6.
  • The company could also launch other devices at this event.
  • This will be the first tablet in several years with the Nokia name.

Update, September 27, 2021 (10:18 AM ET): A week ago, we found evidence to suggest there could be a new Nokia tablet on the way. Today, on Twitter, the official Nokia Mobile account confirmed the rumor. You can see the tweet embedded below.

The tweet doesn’t give us much info other than the confirmation that a new tablet is on the way. Stay tuned as the October 6 launch date is just around the corner!

Original article, September 20, 2021 (10:22 AM): HMD Global is joining the list of mobile device companies with upcoming announcements this fall. Today, it used its Nokia Mobile Twitter page (via Phonearena) to tease us with some sort of reveal that’s coming on October 6. It looks likely that the event will officially introduce a Nokia-branded tablet.

The teaser shows early Nokia smartphones alongside more modern Android smartphones that have had the Nokia brand name. The final object in the lineup is a box that looks much larger than anything else. The Twitter message simply says, “Our family keeps growing.”

Previous reports from Nokiamob.net and others claim that HMD Global is indeed planning on launching an Android-based tablet. The reports claim the product could be called the Nokia T20, with a 10.36-inch display, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, along with a version that could have 4G wireless support. Pricing for this tablet in the UK was reportedly leaked by a retailer, with £185 (~$257) for the standard model, and £202 (~$280) for the 4G version. If HMD Global is indeed launching a Nokia tablet, it would be the first such product with the Nokia brand since the Nokia N1 way back in 2015.

It’s also possible that HMD Global could reveal some new Nokia smartphones on October 6 as well. In an interview with Android Authority earlier this year,  HMD Global’s former Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas told us that the company could offer more affordable smartphones with 5G support this year. That first such phone could be the rumored Nokia G50 5G, which according to China’s TENAA site could have a big 6.82-inch display. We are also still waiting to see if HMD Global will launch a true high-end phone this year. Rumors about the Nokia X50, with its 108MP main rear camera, have been circulating for months.
