It looks like Prince Harry and Prince William’s former nanny Tiggy Legge-Bourke is set to receive “significant” damages from the BBC over Martin Bashir’s 1995 Panorama interview with Princess Diana.
To bring you up to speed real fast, the BBC recently launched an investigation into Bashir’s interview amid allegations that he created fake bank statements to manipulate Diana into sitting down with him. Bashir also allegedly showed Diana a fake abortion “receipt” for her nanny, Legge-Bourke, in an attempt to prey on the late princess’s fear that Prince Charles and Tiggy were having an affair.
The BBC hired former British Supreme Court Judge John Dyson to lead an independent investigation of the Panorama interview, and he found that Bashir had used “deceitful methods” to manipulate Princess Diana.
The Telegraph (via People) reports that while Bashir won’t be prosecuted, the BBC has offered to pay Legge-Bourke “significant” damages “in excess of £100,000.” As a source tells The Telegraph, “Tiggy Legge-Bourke was right at the center of Bashir’s manipulation and it is right that the damage caused to her is recognized by the BBC.”
Legge-Bourke has remained close to both Prince Harry and Prince William throughout their lives: They both attended her wedding in 1999, she attended Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding, and she’s even said to be one of Archie’s godmothers. At this point, she hasn’t released a public statement on the BBC’s damages offer.
