Princess Beatrice has given birth to a baby girl, Buckingham Palace has announced.

Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi said they were “delighted” to announce their newborn’s arrival Monday morning via Twitter

“So delighted to share the news of the safe arrival of our daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. Thank you to the Midwife team and everyone at the hospital for their wonderful care,” she wrote.

An official statement released by Buckingham Palace echoed the same sentiment. “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. The baby weighs 6 pounds and 2 ounces. The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news. The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother Christopher Woolf,” it read.

Members of the royal family quickly shared their congratulations with Charles, the Prince of Wales, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall tweeting, “Congratulations to Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on the happy news of the birth of their daughter.”

The infant is the Queen’s twelfth great-grandchild and the second grandchildren for Beatrice’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of York. Like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, and Princess Eugenie’s son, Beatrice and Edo’s daughter will not take a title, despite Beatrice being tenth in line to the throne. Only grandchildren of the monarch through the male line are automatically entitled to the styling of HRH. However, Beatrice and Edo’s daughter could inherit the title of “countess” from her father who is an Italian count.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Edoardo’s dad, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, explained, “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”

Buckingham Palace announced the pregnancy less than a year after Beatrice, 33, married Edoardo in a secret lockdown wedding in Windsor back last July. The couple has been together since 2018 and Beatrice is stepmother to Edo’s 5-year-old son Christopher Woolf, his child from his previous relationship with ex-fiancée Dara Huang. Beatrice has spoken about her role as his stepmother, telling Hello magazine she considers “Wolfie” her bonus son. Now with the addition of her daughter, friends say the royal could not be happier.

However, a cloud continues to hang over the York family as the beleaguered Duke of York faces a civil lawsuit from Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who has accused Prince Andrew of sexual assault. Andrew was last seen in Scotland where he has been staying with the Queen, but is expected to return to London to meet his new granddaughter shortly.

Meanwhile, Sarah, Duchess of York recently told a magazine that she is loving her new life as a grandmother. “Being 61 makes me a young grandma, and I love it,” she explained in a piece for Good Housekeeping. “I smile from my heart every day, because that is how it feels to be a granny.”
