Ryan Garcia trashes Jo Jo Diaz after he questions whether he’ll pull out of fight

By Dan Ambrose: Ryan Garcia let loose on Joseph ‘Jo Jo’ Diaz Jr. on social media after he questioned whether he’d pull out of their fight like he’s done with other opponents.

Boxing fans would rather see Ryan or Diaz Jr. challenge WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney for his title.

After all, both of them have won WBC world title eliminators and then chose not to face Haney for his 135-lb belt for some reason.

The Golden Boy promoted Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) revealed he’s in talks with Jo Jo Diaz Jr. for a fight that could be taking place before the end of the year.

However, Diaz Jr. (32-1-1, 15 KOs) doesn’t want to be left empty-handed the way Javier Fortuna, Devin Haney, and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis all were when Ryan, 23, changed his mind about wanting to fight them.

Ryan has proven to be good at calling out different fighters, but he’s failed to follow through when it comes to him fighting them.

Recently, Ryan was supposed to be fighting Javier Fortuna in a WBC lightweight title eliminator on July 9th, but he pulled out due to an anxiety issue.

Luckily for Golden Boy Promotions, Jo Jo Diaz Jr. stepped forward and took the fight against Fortuna, beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision.

You blame Jo Jo Diaz Jr. for being a little concerned about whether Ryan will make it to their fight without pulling out for this or that. The 2012 U.S Olympian Diaz Jr. doesn’t want to waste his time if Ryan isn’t serious about taking the fight.

If Ryan isn’t serious about fighting Diaz, he can use his mandatory status with the World Boxing Council to challenge WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney.

Ryan’s reputation will be ruined if he bails out of the Jo Jo Diaz Jr. fight like he’s done with this others. It wouldn’t be a big deal if Ryan were facing talented opposition between bailing on fights, but he’s not.

Ryan has been padding his record against these fighters the last few years:

  • Luke Campbell
  • Fransisco Fonseca
  • Romero Duno
  • Jose Lopez
  • Braulio Rodriguez
  • Carlos Morales

Ryan must fight for a world title at least once at 135 before he grows out of the weight class. You’d like to see Ryan win one world title at lightweight before he moves up to 140.

The light-hitting Haney is the ideal guy for Ryan to challenge for a world title because he has no power and isn’t dangerous like Gervonta Davis and Teofimo Lopez.
