Update: Delays ceased on the Goethals Bridge to Staten Island around 9:30 a.m. Earlier during the morning rush hour, traffic backed up onto the span from the Staten Island Expressway Brooklyn-bound, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Outerbridge Crossing to New Jersey has residual delays after a disabled vehicle blocked the right lane, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Delays also are reported on the Goethals Bridge to Staten Island during the Monday morning rush hour.
Cars are backing up on the span because of traffic on the Staten Island Expressway, Brooklyn bound, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Traffic is moving slowly all the way from the Goethals Bridge to the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, according to Google Maps.
Congestion was reported on the Staten Island Expressway every day that public schools were in session last week.
As Staten Island public students are now back on campus, returning to their classrooms for the first day of school last week, parents and other drivers throughout the borough must now endure brutal back-to-school traffic not seen since before the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Last year was a bit of an exception, with the pandemic prompting about half of the city’s public school students to participate in remote learning and many would-be commuters still working from home.
But with all students now back in school for full-time in-person instruction, and many workers returning to the office, Staten Island’s streets have crept to a crawl during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups.
