'Call Of Duty: Vanguard' Beta Crashes Tied To Players Being Too Darn Popular

Call Of Duty: Vanguard is now open to all players in beta, and expectedly, it's been a rocky ride. However, PC players probably weren't planning for their popularity to be the factor preventing the game from starting.

Set at the end of the Second World War, the game's story will follow fictional special forces soldiers who are based on pivotal people who facilitated the victory over the Axis powers. "Project Phoenix" is the operation to introduce Hitler's successor and claw back control. It will be the player's role to engage in historical missions to prevent this plan from ever being realised.

Anyway, that's just the campaign, and Call Of Duty's multiplayer modes are the reason that people return again and again to the annual outing. Unfortunately, the community isn't overly impressed with Vanguard's betas so far. If it's not the strange distortion effect while using certain weapons, it's pro players manipulating the skill-based matchmaking system. If it's not these spoilsports, it's the fact that your friends list on Battle.net is causing the game to crash.

Some might argue that Warzone wins require a level of luck, but, ultimately it's a game of skill. Players pour hours and hours to ensure they've got the edge over their opponents and if you're bested by someone better, you congratulate them and move on with your life. Or, you could have a paddy like you're five years old. Oof. Check it out below!

Yep, your popularity is the problem. Though players have tried everything, even a clean reinstall, to address why Vanguard is crashing immediately, it's actually due to the number of friends on your Battle.net account.

"After clearing out my friends list to below 220 I launched the game and it's now working," reported sonosaber on Reddit. "The only reason I thought this would work is because the game would launch, but as soon as my friends list number started populating the game would crash."

So, now begins the difficult decisions of who's staying and who's going. Well. I don't envy the task, but if you've got more than 100 friends that you talk to on a daily basis and keep up with each other's lives, I have but one question - what's it like being the Chosen One?

Call Of Duty 2022 is still hidden in shadow while Sledgehammer Games and Activision focus on Vanguard, Warzone and Mobile, but a little light has been shed on its possible setting. Codenamed Project Cortez, it will continue the storyline of the soft reboot of Modern Warfare. Moreover, rumours are rumbling that it will be located in Colombia and take inspiration from a Harrison Ford film.
