Tropical Storm's Peter and Rose continue to spin across the Atlantic basin as we monitor two other areas for potential development later this week.

First, we start with Tropical Storm Peter.

It's to the north and east of the Leeward Islands and is producing disorganized shower and storm activity. Hurricane hunters flew into the system this morning and determined it hasn't really strengthened a whole lot since last night.

The system continues to produce winds of 50 mph at the surface with some higher gusts in a few thunderstorms. Peter is likely to move a bit further west before it gets captured by an upper level trough later this week, shearing the system apart and pulling it north. While it's moving closer to the United States, it's unlikely to be any closer than the Bahamas and we shouldn't deal with any impacts from Peter locally.

Tropical Storm Rose formed this weekend just off the coast of the Cape Verde Islands near Africa. Rose is producing some solid thunderstorm activity this morning, but it has yet to strengthen significantly according to satellite estimates. The NHC predicts Rose may strengthen some before wind shear increases later this week and Rose weakens to a tropical depression yet again. This will be no threat to the United States.

Elsewhere in the tropics, Invest 98L formed south of the Cape Verde Islands and is producing disorganized shower activity. Satellite imagery suggests a mid-level center may be trying to form, but it will be a few days before a low-level center forms.

Long term trends suggest the system will remain rather far south, keeping it away from cooler waters in the wake of Rose and Hurricane Larry from a few weeks ago. Upper level winds should be favorable for development as well, and we could see a tropical depression form by late week. This system, due to how far south it is, will need to be monitored for impacts to the Caribbean by this upcoming weekend. It's too early to talk about impacts locally from this system.

Finally, an area of disorganized showers and storms from the remnants of Tropical Storm Odette continue to spin south of Newfoundland. These remnants may slide farther south over warmer waters later this week, allowing for some tropical or subtropical development. If this system redevelops, it would remain far enough away from shore to not impact anyone. It would also retain the name Odette.

As of now, no threats to the United States from any of these systems over the next week. We'll keep you updated both on-air and online over the next several weeks as we track all four of these systems.
