Lady Chaps Wrap up Non-Conference Play Against Cougars

LCU Trying for 4-0 Start

LUBBOCK, Texas (September 16, 2021) – The Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team got a 2-1 win in their first road match of the season and will look to leave Colorado undefeated when they take on Colorado Christian at 1 p.m. CT on Friday at Trailblazer Stadium.
 
LADY CHAP NEWS AND NOTES
  • Lubbock Christian is 3-0 to start the year, which is they last did in 2016. If they beat Colorado Christian and become 4-0, it will be the best start since 2012, when LCU rattled off an incredible 12 wins to start the year
  • The Lady Chaps have allowed just two goals through the first three games of the season for a goals against average of .67, which is the fourth-best mark in the Lone Star Conference. They have allowed an average of 10 shots per game, with only 13 total shots on goal against
  • Makenna Pate scored once in each game of the season so far, ranking second in the conference in that category. She now has 12 goals for the Lady Chaps, but the one she scored on Wednesday against CSU-Pueblo was her first game-winner in an LCU uniform
  • Freshman goalkeeper Megan Mirabal hasn't been forced into action a ton so far this season, thanks to LCU's strong back line, but she has made 11 saves with an .846 save percentage
  • Shadiana Haney is the only Lady Chap field player who has been on the field for every minute of every game so far this season, playing all 270 minutes. She recorded her first point of the season on Wednesday with an assist on the game-winning goal
  • Pate and Allison Scott are currently tied for the team lead in points with six apiece, which also has them tied for third in the LSC in that category. Pate got hers with three goals, and Scott has scored twice and recorded two other assists
  • A win on Friday would be the 103rd in Lubbock Christian program history and their 89th under head coach Alex Denning
  • Friday's meeting will be the first-ever between the Lady Chaps and the Cougars
 
SCOUTING COLORADO CHRISTIAN
  • The Cougars are 1-2-1 on the season with losses against Angelo State and Emporia State, both of which are ranked in the top 25 nationally. Their one win came against Eastern New Mexico by a score of 1-0
  • CCU was picked to finish 10th in the 2021 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason poll, just one point behind Adams State, who LCU beat earlier this season
  •  The Cougars have netted two goals this season, with Taya Starnes and Saige Stock doing the scoring
  • Three different goalkeepers have been used in Colorado Christian so far, but Keeley Kroonenberg leads the way with 315 minutes played. She has a goals against average of 1.14 and 18 saves with four goals allowed
  • Head coach Tammy McPhereson is in her 13th season coaching at CCU, where she was also a player, earning RMAC Freshman of the Year and four All-RMAC First Team selections during her career
