Hundreds celebrate many cultures at 2021 Harvest Moon Festival

The Asian Community and Cultural Center brought over 30 businesses and organizations to Antelope Park, celebrating world culture in Nebraska and the end of Autumn harvest.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Asian Community and Cultural Center brought over 30 businesses and organizations to Antelope Park, celebrating world culture in Nebraska and the end of Autumn harvest. 

“We have the performance of  Irish dance, from Indian dance from Korean dance, Chinese dance, and the old Chinese Japanese drumming, You know, so all over the world,” said Rebecca Reinhart, cultural program coordinator.  

Dancers, music, food and more were all shared as hundreds gathered for the Harvest Moon festival. 

Paper lanterns could be bought and Asian board games learned. Performers represented many forms of art, including drumming. 

“It’s my mother’s heritage, so getting to play Taiko,” said Maureen Brace, of Kokyo Taiko.  “It’s just carrying on a Japanese cultural arts, but I, I love it.”

“This is one of the biggest crowds that I’ve seen so that was really special. Again, being able to get together after the last year,” said Sara Bishop, for Kokyo Taiko.

The center’s coordinator says they started planning in July, preparing for 500 and near the end of the event, she estimated about 800 people were in attendance.

Attendees say it was a great way to learn about culture and celebrate as the season changes
