#2 Men’s Soccer Tallies Five Goals in GLVC Road Win over McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - Proving why it's currently one of the best teams in the NCAA DII, the No. 2 University of Indianapolis men's soccer team collected an impressive 5-2 road victory over McKendree in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds found the scoreboard early, opening with a goal in just the ninth minute of action. Capitalizing on a mistake from the Bearcats, Bryan Moreira stole a pass from a McKendree player who was attempting to pass back to the goalkeeper and netted one easily for his squad.

Keeping its foot on the pedal, the second goal for UIndy came just moments later in the 11th minute when Alejandro Steinwascher fired a shot at the keeper which was deflected back into play, opening the door for Dylan Bollard to catch the rebound and score another on the afternoon for the No. 2-ranked team.

However, not to be denied on its home turf, McKendree clawed its way back into the match with a goal of its own in the 34th minute to make it a 2-1 contest.

It was only a matter of time before the Hounds would produce another goal, this time in the 53rd minute when Kendall Allen delivered a beautiful pass to Steinwascher in the middle of the field who found a way to get the ball past an aggressive sliding keeper.

Much like the pair of goals in the first half, UIndy responded quickly again, this time with its fourth goal of the match in the 56th minute. Off a free kick from Michael Tselios, Makel Rasheed met the ball with a header near the net which soared past the hands of an extended keeper.

The Bearcats scored their final goal in the 70th minute before Steinwascher added his second of the match and the fifth and final for the Hounds in the 80th minute on a kick at the middle of the box that was sent soaring into the back of the net.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy dominated on offense, producing 21 total shots while McKendree was limited to just seven.
-Four of the five goals scored this afternoon by the Greyhounds included an assist.
-Continuing to turn up the pressure, the Hounds managed eight corner kicks while the Bearcats had just two.

HOUND BYTES
Final thoughts on the match from head coach John Higgins...
"Delighted with a win today. It's always tough on the road in the GLVC on a Sunday, and I thought our guys did a really nice job of adjusting to McKendree's tactics. McKendree's tactics can be difficult for us, we've had issues with them in the past, and I thought we did a really nice job today on the press so credit to our boys".
