Manchester United player ratings from their 2-1 at the London Stadium on Sunday.

David De Gea: 9/10

Dave STILL saves. De Gea was the hero at the end with his first penalty save since the Louis Van Gaal era, which capped another impressive performance from the Spaniard. Dare we say he’s rediscovering his mojo?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 7/10

Had a lot to make up for after mid-week, but was excellent defensively. A couple wayward passes don’t overshadow his contributions at the back, including another goal-saving block.

Raphael Varane: 7/10

A bit at fault for the opening goal, though his midfield support left him and the rest of the back line scrambling. Overall good performance.

Harry Maguire: 6/10

Seemed out of it in the second half. Made several wayward passes, fortunately no costly errors or turnovers.

Luke Shaw: 6/10

Put in a decent shift, but conceded the late penalty with his arm stuck out. A bit unlucky to be fair, and was bailed out by De Gea’s save.

Fred: 5/10

He was fine for most of the match, but largely unimpactful. Struggled alongside McTominay to establish much control over a strong West Ham midfield.

Scott McTominay: 5/10

Out of position on the West Ham goal. Had one brilliant pass through to Ronaldo, who should have doubled the lead off of it. Decent return and active contributor, but looked like he may have been carrying an injury, or possibly a concussion, by the end of the match.

Bruno Fernandes: 6/10

Another active but ultimately unspectacular performance from Bruno. Grew into the game a bit, but struggled to be his normal influential self in the middle of the park.

Mason Greenwood: 5/10

Not very present for United after the getting the start. Might have been more effective at centre forward, but someone else is currently occupying the position. Withdrawn for Sancho in the second half.

Paul Pogba: 6/10

Started wide left again, but ended up playing more centrally as it became clear McFred couldn’t handle midfield duties on their own. Forward thinking, but unspectacular performance.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 6/10

Got the equalizer on the end of a Bruno Fernandes pass, thanks in part to a spill by Fabianski, but otherwise was frustrated and whiny. Should have scored more goals but whiffed on a chance and chose to go to ground on two others. Hopefully not a sign of things to come that he goes missing, needs to be more involved.

Substitutes

Jadon Sancho: 5/10

Wasn’t super involved after coming on, but looked sharp and more aware of the workings in the team than he has in previous cameo appearances.

Jesse Lingard: 8/10

Brilliant goal to get United in front late. Looked sharp after coming on, moved across the forward line well, and proved to be the game changer his manager hoped for when he sent him on.

Nemanja Matic: N/A

Came on late.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 7/10

Sent out a team that looked up for it, and was able to equalize quickly after conceding. Unfortunately doesn’t have many options in midfield, and he may have a problem with attacking creativity going forward. In the end the side were lucky to get the result, but it was due in part to the substitutions that Solskjaer made in the second half that United got in front late. The attack has plenty of talent, but relying on players to simply make things happen late might not be sustainable.
