SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A driver involved in a rollover crash on Interstate 5 near the Old Town area was fatally struck by another vehicle after crossing over the center divide after the wreck.

Just after 9 p.m. on Sunday, the 26-year-old man from Bonita was traveling eastbound on I-8 to southbound I-5 when he lost control of his pick-up truck, according to California Highway Patrol. It's not immediately clear how he lost control of the vehicle.

The pick-up truck overturned and came to rest on its wheels in the #2 lane of southbound I-5.

The driver exited his truck and jumped across the center divider into the northbound lanes of I-5, where he was struck and killed by an Acura sedan being driven by a 31-year-old-man from La Jolla, CHP said.

The driver of the Acura remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.

CHP said it is investigating the cause of the original crash and waiting for a toxicology report for the victim of the crash.

The victim's name was not released.
