Authorities have released the name of a 72-year-old man who was killed last week when his pickup rolled down an embankment northeast of Ramona.

Clyde Richard Holes, who lived in Santa Ysabel, was driving west on state Route 78 near Rancho Santa Teresa Drive about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday when he failed to navigate a curve, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office and the California Highway Patrol.

Holes’ truck veered off the highway and overturned down an embankment, throwing him from the vehicle. A passerby who saw the headlights of the vehicle off the roadway called 911.

A passenger was hurt and trapped in the pickup. Firefighters freed the 32-year-old man from the wreckage, and paramedics took him to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life threatening, the CHP said.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
