Tigers take care of business against Lopers

HAYS - FHSU Women's Soccer posted its fourth shutout of the season on Sunday (Sept. 19), downing Nebraska-Kearney 3-0.

One goal in the first half and two in second propelled the Tigers to victory. The Tigers are now 3-1-2 overall and the Lopers fell to 1-5.

The Tigers started off attacking into the wind and struggled to get into scoring position. The Tigers only shot five times in the first half, but were able to turn one into a goal as Jordan Thompson took the ball down the pitch and netted a score in the bottom left of the goal in the 32nd minute, It was her second goal of the season.

After halftime the Tigers went to work with the wind at their back. Alex Hutton scored her second goal of the season pinching between two defenders and shuffling the ball into the lower left of the goal in the 71st minute. Tessa Irvine and Hannah Mares were credited for assists. The Tigers then found the goal for the third time at around the 81st minute as Carly Walker kicked the ball in off of a free kick from Katie Evans. That goal was Walker's second of the season. In the second half the Tigers shot 16 times and won the overall shot battle 21-3.

Keepers Maddie Meehan and Isabel Robben combined for three saves as they posted a clean sheet.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday as they head to Topeka to take on Washburn. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
