TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A violent early morning robbery at a gas station just west of Highway 99 in Goshen ended in a shooting, leaving one man dead.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 50-year-old Richard Harris.

He worked at the gas station. On Sunday morning, he was shot in the chest and died.

Investigators are now trying to figure out why this happened and who did it.

"We're gathering evidence throughout the community, talking to witnesses, and basically tracking down leads in hopes that we can identify the individuals responsible for this," said Sgt. Bryan Clower.

One of Harris' coworkers told Action News, "Rick was a great guy. He will be greatly missed. We can't disclose anything further due to it being an active investigation but we ask that anyone with information please contact the Tulare County Sheriff's Office."

The business employees are still picking up the pieces, trying to determine how much money was taken during the robbery.

But the life robbed that morning is something that can't be replaced.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with information on this case to contact Detective Jose Melendez or Sergeant Bryan Clower with the Tulare County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit at 559-733-6218.

Something is off about this, Rick always said if someone tried to rob the store when he was working, he would just let em take whatever. He always said his life wasn't worth losing over someone else money. Hope they are looking into this more.
