Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Sung Kang Hints His Character Has Lightsaber

Fans have been excited about the upcoming Star Wars series Obi Wan-Kenobi where we will see Ewan McGregor's return as the titular character. This time around, we get to see the Jedi Master's adventure between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Little is still known about the specific plot details, but one cast member has shared a little information about his role.

Sung Kang, known for playing Han Lue in the Fast & Furious franchise, was recently interviewed by Screen Rant where he was asked about being a fan of Star Wars and what it means for him to be part of the series. Then, he ended up sharing a little detail about the character that he will play.

"I used to dress up in the cheap K-mart plastic Halloween costumes, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, almost every single day from 8 to 13 years old," Kang shared. "My friends and I would play pretend, we would make our own lightsabers out of toilet paper centers and stuff like that and paper towel cardboard, and to be able to be on set and see Darth Vader and see the Star Wars Universe in front of me, I mean -- just as a fan to be able to be part of that history is pretty amazing. I kept pinching myself to go, 'How did I end up here?' and, my character has a lightsaber, to go, 'What? This is.. It's not a toy. It's actually the real thing, right?' so pretty cool."

There you have it, Kang will play a character with a lightsaber. That brings out a question: Is he going to play a Jedi who apparently survived Order 66 and crosses paths with Kenobi? Or maybe he is on the dark side? There are rumors that he will play the Fifth Brother Inquisitor, but that remains to be confirmed. For now, we can speculate on his role.

Besides McGregor and Kang, also part of the cast are Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Moses Ingram, Rupert Friend, Indira Varma, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine, and Simone Kessell. Production is still reportedly ongoing.

The six-episode Obi-Wan Kenobi series is set to stream on Disney+ next year.
