Brooklyn Nine-Nine creator on Bruce Willis cameo

Brooklyn Nine-Nine with a Bruce Willis cameo sounds like a dream, but it's one the creator was desperately trying to get to get to happen.

Co-creator Dan Goor had huge plans for a fun cameo from the star, especially because the show as a whole is very much a Die Hard fandom in itself – well, Andy Samberg's Jake Peralta at least.

However, the cameo didn't pan out, unfortunately, but instead of wondering what may have happened, Goor has an example of what sort of ideas were coming out of the writers' room.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers last week where the cast reunited following the final episode of the series, Goor said: "There are always pitches from a writers' room that are like, the whole Nine-Nine is called out on a big case, and then he [Willis] walks in and he's like, 'Hey, is there anyone here? No, I guess not,' and walks out."

Samberg, clearly desperate for his character to have the validation he needed from his favourite actor, had other ideas.

He said: "I always just assumed it would be like, Jake sees him on the street and loses his mind. And he's like, 'Hey, you're doing good, kid.'"

The 10-episode season final season has now aired in the US – UK viewers still have to wait for a premiere date – with Goor admitting it was "a difficult decision" to end the series with the eighth season.

"But ultimately, we felt it was the best way to honour the characters, the story and our viewers," he continued. "I know some people will be disappointed it's ending so soon, but honestly, I'm grateful it lasted this long."

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is available to stream on Netflix and All4. It can be seen on E4 in the UK or NBC in the US.
