TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBMA) - The search has ended for a man whose SUV was swept away by floodwaters in Tuscaloosa Saturday after severe flooding in the area.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department said the body of 40-year-old Kelvin Watford was found around 7:45 a.m. Sunday morning in a wooded area just west of Interstate 359 by a family friend helping with the search.
Police said Watford was about a quarter mile downstream from where his SUV was found wedged under a bridge that crosses a drainage ditch on Greensboro Avenue.
Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue suspended the search for Watford Saturday evening and was preparing to resume Sunday morning.
Watford lived in Tuscaloosa, but is originally from Greensboro in Hale County.
Police said officers responded to Bonita Terrace around 2:00 p.m. Saturday after the SUV was swept into the drainage ditch.

Police said a witness told officers that he saw the SUV become stuck in the drainage tunnel and Watford disappear under the water.
The witness told police that the Watford did not resurface.
