Worcester fell behind early, as a pair of three-run innings from Syracuse led to a 9-4 loss on Sunday at NBT Bank Stadium.

The WooSox (66-52) fell in the series to the Mets for the first time in nearly a month, but return home with a 18-6 record over the last 24 games.

Syracuse (47-69-1) took the lead in the second inning off Worcester starter Daniel Gossett, as Travis Blankenhorn led off with a solo homer and four batters later Martin Cervanka sent a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left for a two-run shot that made it 3-0.

Daniel Gossett struggled for Worcester in the series finale against Syracuse on Sunday.

The Mets added to the lead in the third when Brandon Drury sent a shot to center that bounced off the glove of Tate Matheny for a home run to make it 4-0.

Worcester cut the lead to 4-2 in the fourth, as Jarren Duran doubled and took third on a single from Jonathan Araúz single. Duran scored on Franchy Cordero's double and Joey Meneses followed with a single up the middle to plate Araúz.

But Syracuse put the game away in the fifth, as Gossett gave up a single, double and walk to load the bases to set up a two-run single by Brandon Drury. Drury later scored on a wild pitch, as Gossett gave up seven runs on nine hits over four innings.

Worcester had three players on Boston's COVID-19 injured list rehabbing on Sunday.
