Athens-Clarke commissioner Patrick Davenport arrested early Saturday
Athens-Clarke County District 1 Commissioner Patrick Davenport was arrested early Saturday morning for driving under the influence, according to jail records.
Police officers received a call about a drunk driver just after midnight on Saturday, according to Athens-Clarke County police spokesperson Lt. Shaun Barnett.
The caller reported that a black GMC SUV had two flat tires and appeared to have an intoxicated driver in the 900 block of College Station Road, according to Barnett.
When officers arrived, they performed a field sobriety test and Davenport was then arrested for the DUI, according to Barnett.
The charge is a misdemeanor, which is typical of DUI charges in the state of Georgia.
The Athens-Clarke jail booking report shows that Davenport was arrested by ACCPD and booked at 1:47 a.m. on Saturday for driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was released from the jail hours later at 6:48 a.m., the jail records show.
The address listed with the booking matched the address used in 2018 by the commissioner to qualify for the District 1 race.
Davenport began his tenure as a commissioner in January 2019 and oversees District 1, which encompasses Winterville and surrounding area. He is a lifelong Athens resident, according to his ACC bio.
Davenport did not immediately respond to inquiries from the Athens Banner-Herald.
