Corey Seager hilariously tried to trick the umpires by bumping into Jonathan India on a rundown

There aren’t many baseball situations that provide more hectic entertainment value than a good rundown. You have a baserunner desperately trying to make up for a mistake and get to a base safely. You have an entire infield trying to remember those drills from spring training without running into each other. It’s fun!

But even a short rundown can have its hilarious moments.

During Sunday’s game between the Reds and Dodgers, Corey Seager’s second-inning single was spoiled when Wade Miley forced Seager into a rundown with a pickoff attempt at first. But instead of trying to out-maneuver the Reds, Seager tried to fool the umpiring crew.

As Jonathan India was chasing Seager back to first, Seager stopped on the throw to intentionally shoulder-check the Reds second baseman. Seager’s hope was for the umpires to call an obstruction call on India and reward him second base. Seager even tried to sell it by pointing at India.

Yet, it was pretty clear that Seager initiated the contact and went out of his way to bump into India. The umpires weren’t fooled and called Seager out there. It was worth a try, I guess.

Seager would make up for the base-running error his next at-bat with a two-run home run in the third inning.

Don’t have to worry about pickoffs if you do that.
