The number of active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia dropped significantly for the second day in a row Sunday after reaching a new pandemic high earlier in the week.
The state’s active total fell to 25,074, down more than 2,000 from the previous day, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Officials reported 1,604 new positive cases on Sunday.
A record high 29,744 active cases were reported on Friday.
The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 increased again Sunday to 961, up six from the previous day. There are currently 387 people intensive care due to the virus, down five, and 160 people on ventilators, down 10 from the previous day.
The daily positive test rate for the day came in at 9.49%, while the cumulative positive test rate moved up to 5.67%.
