The Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets are going to have some intense games next season now that they have Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green.

Green made no secret about his feelings after the Pistons chose Cunningham with the first pick, and he hasn’t stopped talking about it since, including saying some awful things about the city of Detroit.

I actually love this, as rivalries seem to be a thing of the past in the NBA and I like the idea of having new rivals as the Pistons continue their restoration.

We already got a taste of this in Summer League, where Cunningham vs. Green I got the attention of the entire NBA.

When we say Detroit vs. Everybody we mean it, and Green’s comments didn’t go unnoticed by some of the legends of the city.

Detroit Pistons: Red Wings legend Darren McCarty calls out Jalen Green

Former Red Wings enforcer Darren McCarty had plenty to say about Green’s comments, reminding him that Detroit is a proud sports city with a lot of history.

I honestly just thought Green’s comments were harmless banter, but I am not going to disagree with McCarty, who didn’t take kindly to Green’s criticism of Detroit.

Detroit was recently named “The Capital of Bad Sports,” a moniker that was impossible to imagine in the heyday of the Wings and Pistons, when titles were a regularity.

Cunningham may be the best chance to save sports in Detroit, which is why McCarty immediately dropped his gloves in defense of his adopted home town.

You love to see former greats sticking up for the city, and fans of the Detroit Pistons and Red Wings hope that their time is coming again soon after lengthy rebuilds that have not yielded much success.

One thing is for certain: You need to circle Pistons vs. Rockets on your calendar because this is a budding rivalry that is going to spill into the season and hopefully add some spice to these games.
