Lawn weeds #772206

Asked September 18, 2021, 4:18 PM EDT

I have had good success hand spraying lawn weeds (dandelion, etc.) in the fall with 2,4-D. I recently moved to a new location southwest of Baxter to a yard (sandy soils) with lots of birch an oak trees. Can I still use 2,4-D for fall lawn weed control under mature birch/oak trees? Any precautions? Stay out of drip line? Reduce herbicide rate? Use other herbicides less harmful to trees? Other ideas?

Expert Response

2,4-D can be used under large trees if there is no wind. it does not persist in the soil and it can be used safely if the precautions on the label are followed.
