San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King looked excellent during Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander took a tough loss after allowing one run and two hits over 7 2/3 innings of work. It was an 109-pitch game for King who struck out 10 batters over the course of the afternoon. After this outing, King holds a 2-1 record with a 3.33 ERA across four games.
The San Diego Padres placed right-hander Yu Darvish (neck) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to April 15) with neck tightness on Wednesday and recalled right-hander Logan Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move. It's unclear as of now if Darvish has a realistic chance to return from the IL when he's eligible on April 30, but the 37-year-old will miss at least the next couple of weeks. San Diego's starting pitching depth will be tested in the season's first month, and it's not clear yet who the main candidates are to take Darvish's spot. In his first five starts of 2024, Darvish had posted a 4.18 ERA (3.88 FIP) and 1.27 WHIP with 10 walks and 22 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings pitched. Keep the five-time All-Star stashed in an IL spot for now in fantasy leagues.
San Diego Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim went 1-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's victory against the Milwaukee Brewers. Kim blasted a three-run homer off Wade Miley as part of a four-run first inning and that would be enough for the Padres to secure a 6-3 victory. The homer was his third of the season and he has now driven in 12 runs to go along with four stolen bases. Kim's .225 batting average isn't ideal at the moment, but he has helped out in all other categories. Kim should remain rostered in all formats with his ability to help across the board.
San Diego Padres middle infielder Ha-Seong Kim got the game started in Tuesday's 6-3 win against the Brewers. Kim went 1-for-3 with a first-inning three-run home run and a walk. The 28-year-old has provided a bit of everything except hit for average, slashing .225/.341/.451 with three HR, 12 runs scored, 12 RBI, and four stolen bases in 86 plate appearances. Hopefully, his average will come around, but he is still offering fantasy value at this time.
San Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth (calf) is not in the lineup on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers after being pulled from Monday's 7-3 win with calf tightness late in the game. The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee points out that the Padres recalled infielder Matthew Batten from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, which presumably means that Cronenworth will miss some time with his injury. However, he hasn't officially been placed on the injured list, so it could just be a day-to-day situation for now. Jurickson Profar is handling first base and batting third on Tuesday, while Jose Azocar is in left field and batting ninth against Brewers left-hander Wade Miley. Profar is hitting .417 with an RBI in 12 career at-bats against Miley, while Azocar has gone hitless versus the soft-tossing lefty in four career ABs.
