Detroit Pistons: Jerami Grant to the Celtics? Not in this trade.

Jerami Grant of the Detroit Pistons was involved in a ton of trade rumors last season, including a few with the Boston Celtics.

This made sense, as Grant had a breakout season on a rebuilding team, so many thought the Pistons might sell high on the forward and reap a massive trade package.

It never happened and it now looks like Grant is part of the Pistons’ long-term plans, and he should be, as he is not only a talented player but wants to be in Detroit, so is the type of guy who can help change the culture for the team.

But that hasn’t stopped Celtics’ fans from trying, and I can’t blame them, as Grant would be a nice fit as a versatile defensive wing who can knock down 3-point shots.

However, some of these proposals are even worse than the ones we saw last season, and aren’t going to be nearly enough to pry Jerami Grant out of Detroit.

If the Pistons did decide to trade Jerami Grant, they will be looking for a combination of young players and draft picks. This proposal from our friends at Hardwood Houdini has both, just not the right ones:

This is quite a haul in quantity, but it makes no sense for the Detroit Pistons, who already have similar (arguably better) young players who already do the same things.

Aaron Nesmith is a 3-point shooter who projects as a guy who will be able to defend multiple spots, but the Pistons already have All-Rookie Saddiq Bey who does all of those things only better.

Same with Grant Williams, a young big who isn’t half as good as Isaiah Stewart. Josh Richardson is a plus athlete who can defend and run the floor, much like Hamidou Diallo, the younger and cheaper version.

The draft picks will all likely be late in the first since the Celtics figure to be good, so the Pistons would be giving up an All-Star level player for a bunch of redundant and unproven young guys and garbage draft picks.

Hard pass.

I really don’t see a trade with the Celtics working, as they just don’t have the right type of young players or draft assets to entice the Detroit Pistons.
