Pottstown man charged after leading police on chase with children in car

LOWER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A Pottstown man is facing charges after he allegedly led police on a chase along the Garden State Parkway with his young children in the vehicle. Fortunately, the kids were recovered safely.

Police said Friday morning they received a call from a woman stating that her husband had taken off with their three children while he was possibly in possession of a gun.

Lower Township officers located the man driving a black Chevrolet Tahoe. A police chase began which led to the Garden State Parkway. Police eventually stopped the pursuit, fearing for the safety of the young children.

The driver — 38-year-old Shane Delano of Pottstown — was eventually arrested in Rahway, New Jersey after a minor car accident. He was charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and assault by automobile.

He was not in possession of a gun, but his wife, Kristen Delano, did have a firearm. She was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun.

Shane Delano is currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center, awaiting a detention hearing. However, he also has a pending court date this week in Montgomery County. Delano was arrested in July after an accident, and charged with DUI as well as making terroristic threats, for threatening to kill hospital staff, their families and pets.
