Matt Corral named Walter Camp Player of the Week for Second Week in a Row

OXFORD, Miss. — For the second straight week, Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral has been named the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation for games ending September 18.

Matt Corral earns Offensive Player of Week honors for the second straight week after accounting for seven touchdowns (3 passing, 4 rushing) in the 17th-ranked Rebels’ 61-21 victory over Tulane.  Corral completed 23-of-31 passes for 335 yards and rushed for 68 more.

In this game, Corral became the first player to pass for three touchdowns and rush for four touchdowns in a single game in Southeastern Conference history.

Corral’s seven touchdowns marked the first time one Rebel has accounted for as many since Arnold “Showboat” Boykin scored seven rushing touchdowns in a 49-7 win at Mississippi State 70 seasons ago – in 1951.

Corral joins former quarterback Denard Robinson (Michigan, Sept. 5 and 12, 2010) and Lamar Jackson (Louisville, Sept, 4 and 11, 2016) as repeat Walter Camp Player of Week honorees.

Corral also joins Jackson, Case Keenum (Houston), Jarvis Jones (Georgia), Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma) and Colt McCoy (Texas) as three-time Player of Week recipients.

About the Award: This is the 18th year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.

Hotty Toddy and congrats to Matt!
