1 killed, 5 injured in Dallas neighborhood shooting

DALLAS — One man was killed and five people were injured -- one critically -- after a shooting in a Dallas neighborhood early Sunday, authorities said.

According to police, “shots from multiple weapons” occurred in the Deep Elum area, an entertainment district, at about 12:40 a.m. EDT, The Dallas Morning News reported.

A 19-year-old was critically injured and was taken to an area hospital, according to WFAA. The other four victims are women who are expected to recover from their injuries, the television station reported. Their ages ranged from 15 years old to 30 years old, police season.

Kenneth Walker, 18, was shot and taken to an area hospital, where he died, the newspaper reported.

According to police, Lathaniel Pearson, 18, was seen pointing a gun at the site of the shootings and was ordered to drop the weapon, KXAS reported. Pearson dropped the gun and ran, but was apprehended and arrested after a short foot chase, according to the television station.

Pearson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest, the Morning News reported. It was unclear whether the rounds fired by Pearson were the ones that killed Walker or injured the other five victims, police said.

Police said the motive and circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation, KXAS reported.
