The Minnesota Vikings got off to a rough start in their 2021 season, losing in overtime to the Cincinnati Bengals last weekend. That tough defeat has heightened tensions around the organization amid rumblings that big changes are coming if the Vikings don't make the playoffs, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.
This means Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is on the hot seat. The Wilfs reportedly considered firing Zimmer after the 2019 season, which saw Minnesota make the playoffs and win a game. The Vikings took a step back in 2020 to a 7-9 record, though it was obviously a unique season because of COVID-19.

La Canfora notes that Zimmer's “coaching style can be grating for coaches and players” and that ownership has put a lot of resources into the team. Zimmer is 64-48-1 as head coach of the Vikings after taking over in 2014. He has made the playoffs three times, with a trip to the NFC Championship Game in the 2017 season on his resume.
However, Minnesota got destroyed by the Philadelphia Eagles in that game and missed the playoffs two of the next three seasons leading up to this one. So, the pressure is on in Minnesota, especially after such a poor Week 1 that was marred by a lot of penalties and a heartbreaking overtime loss.
The Vikings have a tough Week 2 matchup ahead of them out in the desert against the Arizona Cardinals, who absolutely throttled the Tennessee Titans in Week 1.
