New(born) exhibit
The new rotating exhibit at the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum focuses on traditions surrounding birth and early childhood. The arrival of a child is celebrated with special rituals and gifts, and the museum collections contain myriad items connected with babies, many of which are seeing the light of day in this exhibit of paraphernalia commemorating birth and documenting child rearing.
Visitors can view christening gowns and caps, baptismal gifts such as silver cups and spoons, early wooden cradles and bassinets for the newborn baby. Tiny shoes and moccasins accompany receiving blankets, and baby’s first cutlery, toys and dolls are also on display. Books and journals illuminate child-rearing techniques of the past two centuries.
The exhibit opens Oct. 3 and runs through the end of the year at Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, 570 E. Remington Drive. Museum hours are Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, noon-4 p.m. For more information, call 408-749-0220 or visit www.heritageparkmuseum.org.
School district elections
Like more than 300 school districts and 100 cities across the state, the Sunnyvale School District has started the process to change from at-large to trustee area elections. To do so will require the district to create five geographic trustee areas.
Board elections are set to be transitioned to trustee areas beginning with in 2022. Current board members will continue in office until their terms expire in 2022 or 2024.
