The Short Story: The 23
rd-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to shutout visiting Swarthmore in both teams' Centennial Conference opener Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field.
Â
How it Happened
• After a scoreless first half, Hopkins wasted little time in getting on the board in the second. Sophomore
Aidan Dunphy switched fields on a long ball from the left touchline. Sophomore
Tyler White collected the pass on the goal line and dropped the ball back to freshman
Ian Whamond, who one-timed a right-footed shot into the left upper 90 just 65 seconds into the half
• The Blue Jays pushed their lead to two in the 70
th minute off the foot of Dunphy. Graduate student goalie
Xander LeFevre sent the ball 55 yards over the top of the defense. Dunphy took one touch and then slotted the ball under a charging Max Krol to stake Hopkins to a 2-0 lead.
