Naval Academy graduate, Marine killed in Iraq remembered at run

A U.S. Naval Academy graduate whose service was inspired by the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, was  remembered with a charity race today.

U.S. Marine  1st Lt. Travis Manion, who was killed in Iraq in 2007, was remembered  in Annapolis at the 10th Annual 9/11 Heroes Run.

LISTEN: WBAL’s Robert Lang speaks to 9/11 Annapolis Heroes Run director Race Director, Natanya Levioff.

The race is part of a series of races across the country that raised money for the Travis Manion Foundation, which provides support to returning veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the families of service members who have died. The foundation also supports various youth programs.

Manion graduated from the Naval Academy in 2004.

Organizers say the race attracted 1,000 runners and raised $27,000 for the foundation.
