EUGENE — No. 4 Oregon defeated Stony Brook, 48-7, Saturday at Autzen Stadium.

Stony Brook coach Chuck Priore recapped the Seawolves’ loss.

Below is a transcript of Priore’s postgame press conference.

OPENING STATEMENT

I thought our team competed from play one through the last play. We came here mentally prepared and I think we proved we were up to the challenge. We certainly played against a quality football opponent and I thought we gave them a pretty good scare in the first half.

Q. The main takeaway from this game…

PRIORE: We understand how to prepare for an opponent. I preached to them all week, you can’t worry about who’s on the field, you can only execute the plan and I thought we executed the plan very well from start to finish. We did things on special teams we wanted to do, we controlled the line of scrimmage at times, but they’re a better football team than us and there was no secret to that going into it. I would just hope we continue the momentum. We got a little banged up and we’ve got to get healthy.

Q. What impressed you about your scoring drive at the end of the first quarter?

PRIORE: I thought we clicked. We converted some third downs, which is important. Our run game got off the ground and when you look at the end of the game, we controlled the run game in the first half and we were very successful on third down, which allowed us to stay in the game in the first half.

Q. Overall you have to be satisfied with the first half...

PRIORE: I was pleased with our effort. Obviously you can’t be satisfied if you’re losing 17-7, it doesn’t matter who you’re playing against. I was pleased with our effort and our focus under the conditions we were in. We adapted to a delayed start, didn’t get a chance to warm up correctly, but I thought our kids ran around and played hard, and that’s what we talked about all week.

Q. You couldn’t make up the ground in the second half…

PRIORE: We probably made some mistakes, we wore down a little bit personnel wise. There were a few penalties that got us in second-and-long situations, so I just think we’ve got to capture the things that we did well. We’ve got to move forward from this game, we’ve got to leave the Oregon game in Oregon and when we get on the plane, we have to start getting ready for Fordham next Saturday.
