Ryan Day has a tough decision to make if Ohio State is going to win the Big Ten

Ryan Day may need to make some changes to his Ohio State football team before it is too late.

While the Ohio State football team bounced back with a 41-20 victory at home over Tulsa, head coach Ryan Day has to make a major adjustment or two if the Buckeyes want any shot of winning the Big Ten.

Though Ohio State did a better job of stopping the run (59 rushing yards allowed), Kerry Coombs’ defense got lit up like a Christmas tree through the air (427 passing yards allowed). Had this game have been on the road or against a decent Big Ten team, this could have been Ohio State’s second loss of the year. If the Buckeyes lose again, they will not make the College Football Playoff.

Even if Coombs gets the bulk of the blame, defensive coaching staff changes may not be enough.

While Coombs’ defense may be the reason the Buckeyes do not make the playoff, it’s becoming clear that C.J. Stroud may not be the answer at quarterback.

This was Stroud’s third career start, but he did not look impressive vs. the Golden Hurricane. He completed 15-of-25 passes for 185 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Simply put, he needs to provide a bigger spark than what he has.

Coombs’ days in Columbus are numbered, but Stroud has to play better before October gets here or a quarterback change could be coming. It’s a decision that could determine the fate of the Buckeyes.
