- I see in your form you have field for upgrade or for a passport that you would provide. So as much as I would love to upgrade my passport at this time the keyboard is not optimal could you change it to in the operation?
Posted via CB1010-05-21 04:37 PMLike 0 - Finally there someone gonna bring my Passport back into life.
I have submit my email and device i wanna do. So how soon you will start your project?.
And the price?10-10-21 01:22 PMLike 0 - Hello and thank you for this question.
I am not sure about this but, there should be very little if any "taxes" on equipment repairs.
If you would please be so kind and research this on behalf of yourself and your fellow EU users, that would be greatly appreciated by me.
Thank you for the great questions, keep them coming (other than "when will Conite have a working unit to test")...
AND it is imperative that @conite receives a test mule and approve the mods, product outflow and overall customer delight ! I am sure you know the power of 57+ thousand posts!!10-12-21 06:04 AMLike 0 - Interesting project there. I will be surely interested in one of the versions if the mods offer acceptable service levels and longevity (being BB user my expectations aren't too high anyway!!) I am mainly focused with typing experience and touch sensitive keyboard.

Was conite ever a fan of the Passport form factor?
Do you think conite is going to be excited about going backwards to Android 9 after using Android 12?
Do you think he would extol the experience of Android 9 on a Snapdragon 801?
I'd send the thing to Boon or Tech Odyssey, if he ever gets around to doing what he thinks he can do. But really just release a video and see how many sign up for the $300 - $500 conversion. Clearly he isn't looking for hundreds of customers.the_boon likes this.10-14-21 09:15 AMLike 1 - Was conite ever a fan of the Passport form factor?

Nor would I keep the device after testing and deprive him of potential income.
This is more of a technical thing.Last edited by conite; 10-14-21 at 10:23 AM.

- Jeez! It was posted in jest. Lot of water has passed since demise of BB10 and i am not expecting any tech guy to regress.

- I can't believe he spent the time to create his website and started post... without actually doing it yet.
Replacing the storage might be the easy part, finding all the right drivers for a specific hardware package can be very tricky.10-18-21 07:17 AMLike 0 - Hey folks, long time no see!
I've been looking at this project for a few days and I can say with almost complete confidence that this is not possible, not the way OP suggests it should be done. On Qualcomm devices, OS signature verification happens in the SoC, not the eMMC, and bootloader configuration (secure boot/bootloader unlock status) is not stored in the eMMC either.
I would also like to mention the fact that OP posted a picture which supposedly shows two BlackBerry Passport Silver Editions running Android to their website, yet is now claiming that the eMMC programmer they have does not work correctly and "doesn't flash both boot partitions" (which is a dubious claim in and of itself, since flash programmers don't really care what's in the device, they just expose the contents to a computer).
You may be wondering why I specifically mentioned that the devices in that picture are Silver Editions. Well, as it turns out, it is known that BlackBerry was experimenting with running Android on some of their devices before they launched the Priv. As far as I have seen, the specific device they were using to test is the Passport Silver Edition - and several prototypes of the SE running Android have been spotted for sale on eBay and other online marketplaces. So assuming the picture doesn't just show two regular Passports running BB10 and displaying a screenshot of Android running in a square format - which would be an incredibly easy way to fake that picture - they may just be prototypes bought online.
I would absolutely love to be proven wrong though and I will put my money where my mouth is: if OP proves my claims to be wrong, by unboxing a retail Passport and doing the entire conversion process on video in one unedited take, I will donate $500 to the project.elfabio80 likes this.10-18-21 02:57 PMLike 1 - Hey folks, long time no see!

Unfortunately, the rumour is some dumb dumb at BlackBerry committed to a rather large component order, so they had to release the SE to work through it.10-18-21 03:02 PMLike 3 - The Passport SE was previously destined to become the Oslo, and it was going to be Android before both Google and BlackBerry threw in the towel when it wasn't going well.

So I didn't do much with it at the end of the day - I did get it running but the screen didn't work. Everything else - including HDMI out - worked just fine, and I managed to modify the OS on it to achieve root access and explore the rest of the system. I was hoping I could find some sort of vulnerability to unlock regular PlayBooks using this as a research base, but unfortunately I ran out of time, and I've been incredibly busy since then. I actually spoke to a friend about the 10" PB this year, and there's a chance we'll eventually look into it together and he might help me get it fully functional.
I did also get a Cyclone with very very early software, which I repurposed as an IP camera viewer with custom software, so that was kind of cool.10-18-21 06:50 PMLike 2 -
I want to believe.10-19-21 02:23 PMLike 0 - Now more than ever the PlayBook needs a way to be unlocked... Not that installing Android 2 or 3 holds out much appeal at this point.10-19-21 02:29 PMLike 0

Does these additional challenges close the project somehow? Any alternative way forward?10-21-21 07:42 AMLike 0 - 10-29-21 12:10 PMLike 0

But would have been nice if he'd have actually done this and could comment on what Gran PC said. I figured it was a long shot just with getting drivers and running Android 9 on an SD801. But that it might not even work.....10-29-21 01:14 PMLike 0 -
