CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Local allies of former President Donald Trump held a rally Saturday in Millennium Park in support of those who've been arrested for their involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection. The event mirrored one held the same day in Washington, D.C. and also drew Counter-protestors who attempted to drown them out.

The right-wing protesters were backing what they called political prisoners, people who stormed the U.S. Capitol in January. They also used the demonstration to voice their opposition to masks and COVID-19 vaccines.

On Michigan Avenue and Madison Street, a metal barrier and a line of Chicago police officers separated the protesters from the counter-protesters.

"I work in healthcare in an emergency department and I see people die every day," activist, who went by Glenn A., told WBBM Newsradio.

The counter-protest was organized by the Chicago Democratic Socialists and the Antifascists Working Group.  Many of them wore black clothing and full face masks to obscure their identities. They used pots and pans to make noise and played loud music in an attempt to drown the other side out.
